这座建筑设计的指导思想是希望形成一座由市政厅、节日和文化礼堂以及咖啡馆组成的综合体。高质量的区域建筑调整了现有结构以及屋顶类型，质疑了“国际式”作为公共活动建筑的合理性。
我们认为这种继承的形式应当是独立的、有力的形式，避免了单调的矩形平面屋顶，同时避免了使用农村式样的屋顶山墙。
The various tendencies manifest in the historically evolving Bernried settlement were taken up in exemplary fashion and, combined with the austerity of the rectangular fields, compose an ambivalent figural image. The design was awarded 1st prize in an EU-wide competition and executed in three construction phases.
