建设工程目前已在独立大厦上展开；这座位于德州密西西比河西面的奥斯丁城的大厦，是一座高达209米的居住性楼塔，也将是当下此类中最高的建筑。当地建筑设计师事务所Rhode Partners已完成主要的设计进展：建筑将会有规则堆砌式的样貌，而拥有58个房间和370个单元的第二十四楼标志着堆砌塔里的第一层。

“‘被奥斯丁城内流淌着大胆创新的精神而启发，独立大厦每一个堆砌层之间的流动都成为这座楼塔乃至整个社区中鲜活的生活方式的象征，’设计者们如是说，‘在这样一个技术兴盛且被众多企业家和创业者称之为家的城市里，不仅只有将在年末搬进城内的新谷歌办公室，独立大厦也会成为正迅速发展的市中心内的一个地标。’”

除了每个单元里可以有一到四个卧室，大厦内也设置了众多不同的便民设施，其中九楼和三十四楼的面积都超过了1858平方米。可加热的泳池，操场，咖啡吧和户外休息区，以及复修的沙洲溪和客房，都位于九楼。
三十四楼有一个健身中心，瑜伽工作室，主厨餐厅和一个带有会议室的商务中心。仅容纳25人的剧院是大厦的另一个主要特点；在那里人们可以观赏到奥斯丁的全景。为了利用周边的城市景观，20个“优化楼层平面图”也会在大厦内提供。通过这些模拟，在奥斯丁天际的这一个新高度上，全景式风光便可以被观赏到。
日前工程已经开始，独立大厦预计竣工于2018年末。

Selected through an international competition in 2012 among finalists Snøhetta and Morphosis Architects, the winning proposal is a 164,000-square-foot museum building that will be one of the campus's two newest additions.
